Lovetinsky’s Game-High 16 Not Enough for Chargers at Black Hawk

Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) had a game-high 16 points for the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team, but Black Hawk defeated the Chargers 79-61 on Tuesday night with the Arrowhead Conference championship up for grabs.

Lovetinsky scored 12 of her points in the first half for Sandburg (13-15, 6-2), but the Braves (19-10, 7-1) never trailed after the first quarter to clinch the conference title.

Black Hawk hit a 3-pointer at the first-quarter buzzer for a 22-17 advantage and extended its lead to 41-32 at halftime.

Sophomore Sophie Whitford (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) added 12 points, while freshman Destiny Allen (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) and sophomore Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) each had eight points for the Chargers.

Jadyn King and Letecia Billups each had 15 to lead four Black Hawk players in double figures.

UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG
The Chargers will open the Region IV tournament Feb. 26, with the opponent and location to be announced early next week.
